Flax Reindeer

Growing up in NZ, we spent some time as children learning how to weave traditional Maori flax baskets. Using some of the same techniques, this flax reindeer is a great craft for the Christmas Season with materials straight from the garden!

For this project, all you'll need is 5 strips of flax approximately 2cm wide, and 1 metre long. If you don't have any flax, this can also be done with some thick paper.

How to Make a Flax Reindeer

Follow the steps as detailed in the pictures below:

Once you have reached this last step, tuck the loose strands into some of the woven ones and trim the ends.

Next, cut two pieces of the flax strips approximately 10cm long, and fold in half securing with double sided tape.

Stick these to your woven reindeer to create antlers as per the picture below.

Trim the legs to be around the same length, and you're done!
