Finished shark tooth keyring with wire wrapping

While visiting my husband's family near Charleston, South Carolina, I discovered fossilised shark teeth along the shoreline. After spending an afternoon collecting teeth, I decided to create jewellery and keychains as Christmas gifts.

Materials

  • A shark tooth
  • Malleable craft wire
  • A key ring
  • Pliers
  • Wire cutter

Instructions

  1. Cut approximately one metre of craft wire.

  2. Wrap the wire around the shark tooth, securing it from all sides so the tooth is held firmly in place.

  3. Wind the two wire ends together for several centimetres above the tooth to create a twisted stem.

  4. Trim any excess wire with the wire cutter.

  5. Thread the key ring through the wound section. Bend the end of the wire around the key ring and tuck it under another wire section to secure it, trimming as needed.
